Android 7.0 name:

Collecting online fielding of different ideas from the public, Google has announced the official name of the upcoming version of Android: Nougat.

Android N Nougat release date:

On May 18, At the Google I/O 2016 keynote, Google announced the release of a beta-quality Android N. This third developer preview focuses on three areas: productivity, security and performance. Native VR support with a new VR platform also called Daydream has now also been confirmed.

The final Android 7.0 Nougat release date is expected to exist at the end of the summer with the release of the new Nexus device.

Android 7.0 Nougat Features:

1: Security

Google focused on improvements through file-based encryption, media framework hardening and seamless updates in security. Mainly , these ‘time to time updates’ mean that your device will download new software images in the background and make them prepare for the next time you reboot  your phone.

2: Productivity

Google says that seven most recent apps from the recent app drawer are being used by most people, so the wheel will be limited to only these recent used apps. By double-tapping the recent apps button, you will directly switch to the previous used app, yet, on many phones, this feature was already available on the same button via a long press.

3: Android Nougat VR

Also Native VR support with a new VR platform for mobile VR also called Daydream has now also been confirmed. Android Nougat VR comes with a set of specs phones have to meet in order to be compatible. Many device makers are making Daydream compatible with Samsung, LG, Xiaomi ,HTC and Huawei devices.

4: New quick menu settings:

Just like a hamburger menu button which have the icon with three lines has now also been fixed into the system settings. For example, when a user is in the Bluetooth menu, using this left side menu they can directly jump to the other system options. This quick menu has been already a standard in other Google applications.

5: You can reply to messages from the notifications bar directly:

This feature mostly resembles like Apple iOS. Messages can now be replyed from the notification bar itself. With this, the user will not need to unlock their phone or leave an app to answer a message.

6: Multi-window support:

In the Android Marshmallow developer preview, as we saw Google has been working hard to bring the most efficient and native multitasking system to Android. However the function was eventually excluded from Android M, but this time with Android 7.0 Nougat, Google now looks ready to make the leap.

7: New Notifications panel added:

The notification panel in Nougat 7.0 has been totally redesigned, aligning perfectly with what we had already seen in earlier leaks. Icons above the notification shade are now more clearly visible, and a drop-down toggle on the far right side to expand the panel.

8: Enhanced Doze mode 2.0

In Android N the energy saving mode Doze 2.0 has been improved this time in Android N. Google says that with Doze mode whenever the screen is turned off it will save the battery for better charging experience.

9: Android Beta Program:

With this new addition from Google, you will be able to receive updates and preview builds over-the-air, avoiding the need for flashing factory images. Anyone can sign up for the Android Beta Program with a compatible device to receive these preview builds automatically.

10: 3D Touch support:

Force or 3D Touch was mentioned first in the Android N Developer Preview documents but according to different sources they say that this won’t be available in the launch of Android.

11: Android Nougat performance:

According to Google, Android Nougat with the introduction of Vulkan will provide its biggest leap forward in graphics, giving game developers controls of the GPU so that it could have better graphics with smoother and excellent fast performance.

There’s also been a number of Android runtime improvements, task speeds increase between 30%-600% optimizations to the JIT complier compared to the previous version of android.

If you want to test the preview version of Android 7.0 Nougat, the images of the new OS can be downloaded directly from the Google. Remember that this version is unstable and may contain many error. The update can be downloaded via this link.
